MATTAPOISETT — Abigail Field will present "Getting Dressed in 1900" on Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Museum, 5 Church St.

"Clothing historically has been indicative of the socio-economic sphere of the time, and from it we can learn an awful lot about the lives of people throughout history," museum officials said in a news release.

They noted there are many myths associated with women's clothing up until the 1920s, including wild statements like "women broke their ribs with corsets!" and "they wore so many layers they simply could not move with any degree of ease!", and the classic "oh well, people were just smaller back then."

How much truth lies in these statements? Join us to find out, the museum invites the public.

The Quincy Salvation Army is once again holding the Clothing For Kids Program.

Formerly known as the Dress an Angel Program, Clothing For Kids gives new outfits to children 12 and under for spring.

The Women's Auxiliary directs the Clothing For Kids program.

Senior Kroc Officer Cheryl Miller said that now is the perfect time for area children to get new clothes.

As we get to spring, the clothing that they started with back to school, they've grown out of," Miller said. "And to have something new and different is one of the things that the ladies feel is important to the kids to build their self esteem, to feel good about who they are and what they're doing.

You can apply for Clothing for Kids at the Salvation Army Family Service Center through next week.
